[edit] Information

Blood Lions: Bred For The Bullet This shocking and compelling one-off documentary journeys inside South Africa’s lucrative trophy hunting industry, showing in intimate detail how lucrative it is to breed lions, and how the authorities and most professional hunting and tourism bodies have become complicit in allowing the industries to flourish. Every year, over 800 captive, hand-reared lions are shot in South Africa – mostly by international hunters – fuelling a multi-million dollar industry. It's believed that there could be as many as 7,000 lions living in captivity in South Africa alone, the vast majority living in appalling conditions. The breeders of these animals claim they are involved in conservation, educational and research initiatives. Blood Lions: Bred for the Bullet follows acclaimed environmental journalist and safari operator Ian Michler, and hunter Rick Swazey, on their journey to uncover what is going on, who is involved, the impact on the animals, and how much money is being generated by this industry.
