In Ripon, North Yorkshire UK, a woman recalls how a huge hole opened up next to her house more than 60 feet wide and 30 feet deep. In Florida, a sink hole appeared directly below a property, sucking a resident deep underground in the process.

Geologist Tom Backhouse investigates sinkholes caused by collapsed mine shafts, including one in Gosforth that opened up in front of a flat and led down to an abandoned coal mine. In Bury St Edmunds, a homeowner reveals how he is stuck in an unsellable house that is surrounded by sinkholes.
