Extreme Survivors Explore the stark landscape, frigid sea and wild animals in Franz Josef Land, one of the most remote and inhospitable places on Earth, to see how climate change is affecting this untouched world. During the midday heat, places of shade are popular. But they are rare as well. In the Namib-Desert temperatures of 45C and more in the shade are common. Just a few trees and shrubs are around the animals. A real desert dweller the Long Eared Hedgehog is a nocturnal animal but also uses the cooler times of the day for hunting insects. Leaf-cutter ants carefully select good looking leaves, cut off a healthy portion and carry it home. Musk oxen molt their wool every year but the guard hairs keep growing and on adults it can drag along the ground. In only in a few places on earth, like the Norwegian tundra, musk oxen still roam freely.
