Bill Clinton, says former associate Larry Nichols, "is a womanizing, dope-smoking liar and a draft dodger." "Bill Clinton," he continues, "is an attorney, and when a witness comes out against his client, what's the first thing an attorney does? He tries to discredit that witness." Although many attempts have been made to discredit Larry Nichols through the media, all claims against his character and truthfulness have been withdrawn, and a larger, disturbing number of Nichol's allegations against Clinton have turned out to be true. So The New Clinton Chronicles begins with the audacious claim that "ALL INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THIS PROGRAM IS DOCUMENTED AND TRUE" yet not once have the Clintons or other parties tried to sue Nichols for libel, nor has this documentary (now a book) ever been aired by the mainstream media. This is not surprising when the interviewees paint such a consistent picture of Clinton as a serial womanizer and pathological liar, and in an age when almost everybody knows our politicians lied in order to take us into a brutal, unpopular war while the media sucked up to them, soft-balled them and omitted crucial information all the way. An almost equally damaging portrayal of the main stream media is put forward in this documentary, and despite criticisms to be found of it, not one addresses the core accusations it makes.
Much more disturbing for us in the present - and the reason for this effort - is the fact that the new, president-elect has appointed so many former Clinton associates to some of the highest positions in the new government: Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff, Eric Holder as Attorney General, and more than two dozen others so far. As the old proverb goes: A man is known by the company he keeps. Through this documentary perhaps we can see into the future - although frightening - and even characterize the Obama presidency before it has even taken office. More hopefully, we might use the knowledge imparted here to hold the new president's feet to the fire and demand the "change we can believe in" before we stop believing and lose confidence in America altogether.
